Broadcast licence awarded to improve telecoms sector

Abu Dhabi media hub Twofour54 has secured a satellite licence from the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA). The new licence enables Twofour54’s affiliates to broadcast directly through the company’s satellites instead of making arrangements elsewhere.

“The UAE telecommunications sector has witnessed rapid developments recently. We are looking forward … to increasing the number of licensees who enjoy the ability to provide quality services that contribute to improving the performance of the telecommunications sector,” says Mohamed Nasser al-Ghanim, director general of the TRA.

The media hub plays host to a number of local and foreign broadcasters, including the UK’s BBC and BSkyB. It was developed as part of Abu Dhabi’s 2030 plan to turn the emirate into a regional hub for content creation and development.
