Abu Dhabi sewage company to start charges in 2008

11 December 2007
The government-owned Abu Dhabi Sewage Services Company (ADSSC) plans to introduce sewage service charges in the next 12 months, the firm’s managing director Alan Thomson told MEED’s Wastewater Treatment & Reuse 2007 conference.

“We have put several proposals to the board,” said Thomson. “I expect to introduce charges in 2008.”
At present, the costs of the ADSSC, which owns and operates the entire Abu Dhabi sewerage disposal and treatment system, are covered by subsidies from the Abu Dhabi government.
ADSSC plans to award concessions to build two major sewage treatment plants in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain to joint ventures between private investors and the Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA).
