Abu Dhabi splits infrastructure work into four packages

16 February 2010

Shamkha South project is one of emirate’s largest infrastructure schemes

The Abu Dhabi Centre for Housing & Service Facilities Developments has split the infrastructure works for its Shamkha South development into four packages.

It has set 24 February as the closing date for the submission of bids, which could be worth a total of AED9bn ($2.4bn).

The works involve building 80 kilometres of main roads, 270km of minor roads, as well as street lighting, stormwater drainage, sewage systems and electrical distribution networks.

Shamkha South is on the Abu Dhabi mainland, 50km south of Abu Dhabi Island and involves the development of 40 square km of land that could eventually house up to 200,000 residents.

The design for the development features parks, shops, mosques, hospitals, health clubs and entertainment areas. It also features a green belt running through the development, connecting the parks with the city centre.

The masterplan consultant is the Abu Dhabi office of KEO International Consultants (MEED 3:1:09).
