Municipality completes designs for dome
Abu Dhabi Municipality has completed the design work for a new dome-shaped monument that will be built on Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The structure has been designed with seven sides, representing the seven emirates of the UAE.
The project is the latest public scheme to be planned for the Corniche area in recent years. In late 2008, Abu Dhabi Municipality completed a AED105m ($29m) upgrade which involved reclaiming land, constructing a 2-kilometre-long artificial beach and landscaping the park areas. The local Gulf Contractors Company was the contractor and the consultant was UK-based Hyder Consulting.
The Urban Planning Council is planning to extend the public facilities. As part of its upgrade, new amenities such as restaurants, shops and guest chalets will be built to attract tourists and residents to the beachfront area (MEED 7:9:09).
The project follows the guidelines set by the Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 urban masterplan, which includes a park and public spaces along the Corniche.
