Abu Dhabi to prequalify contractors for new museum

10 September 2009

Procurement starts for another Saadiyat building project.

The local Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) has received prequalification documents from contractors wanting to build the Zayed National Museum project on Abu Dhabi’s Saadiyat Island.

Designed by UK-based Foster & Partners, the museum will feature exhibits on the life of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan al-Nahyan, the founding president of the UAE and former ruler of Abu Dhabi (MEED 5:8:09).

The museum is part of Saadiyat’s cultural district, which also includes the Frank Gehry-designed Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, the Louvre Abu Dhabi designed by France’s Jean Nouvel, a performing arts centre designed by UK-based Zaha Hadid, and a maritime museum designed by Japan’s Tadao Ando.

US-based Aecom is the programme manager for the cultural district.
