The Abu Dhabi government has folded state utility Abu Dhabi Electricity & Water Authority (Adwea) into the newly established Department of Energy.
A spokesman for the newly created Department of Energy told international media: “In accordance with the law, Adwea and the RSB [Regulation & Supervision Bureau] will, effective February 20, 2018, be under the newly created Department of Energy.”
All of Adwea’s assets are believed to have been transferred to the new energy department, which will oversee the whole energy sector across the emirate. Adwea owns 10 power and water plants, ownership of which will be transferred to the new department.
The department of energy was one of several new government departments which were established by a series of new laws issued by Sheikh Khalifa, UAE President and ruler of Abu Dhabi Sheikh Khlaifa, in late February.
