Improving efficiency will form a key part of the emirates power and water sector as demand continues to grow
Abu Dhabi is placing efficiency at the top of the agenda as it pushes ahead with efforts to boost capacity in the power and water sectors, MEEDs MENA Power conference has been told.
Speaking at the MENA Power conference in Abu Dhabi on 6 November, Saeed Nassouri, technical advisor, Abu Dhabi Water & Water Electricity Authority (Adwea), said that the government is pushing forward with programmes to drive efficiency and curb demand in the electricity and water sectors.
Nassouri highlighted the initiative to produce new electricity bills for customers in Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain as one way in which the government utility was seeking to improve efficiency and reduce power consumption. According to Nassouri, the new electricity bills, which show the cost of electricity and water used before government subsidy, will increase awareness of customers towards electricity usage and reduce unnecessary power usage.
Nassouri said that the domestic sector largest consumer of electricity in the emirate, and as the population increases demand will continue to grow steadily. Annual demand growth in Abu Dhabi has averaged at 9.4 per cent in recent years and Nassouri said that demand growth was expected to rise to more than 11 per cent up to 2015.
