Actco to build Dubai Bollywood theme park

30 July 2014

Project being built in Jebel Ali area

Local developer Meraas has awarded an estimated AED250m ($68m) contract for the construction of its Bollywood theme park in Dubai to the local Actco General Contracting Company.

The theme park is part of the Dubai Parks development in the Jebel Ali area close to the Abu Dhabi border, which also comprises Dubai Adventure Studios, a water and marine life park, a children’s theme park and a night safari park.

The UK’s Kier is working on an infrastructure package at the development. The local Khansaheb Civil Engineering has completed site preparation and early works. South Korea’s Samsung C&T is acting as the client representative and programme manager on behalf of Meraas.

The award is the latest win for Actco this summer. In July, the company formally signed a AED1.2bn contract to build Nakheel Mall on the Palm Jumeirah as part of a joint venture with the local United Engineering Construction (UNEC).

The two firms were awarded the deal in May this year. The 418,000-square-metre mall will have five retail levels with more than 100,000 sq m of retail space, three basement parking levels with 4,000 spaces, 300 shops, two anchor department stores, a nine-screen cinema, a medical centre and a fitness complex. There will also be a roof plaza with food and beverage outlets. The project is expected to be completed in 2016.
