Adco retenders Bab compressor contract

28 November 2007

Abu Dhabi Company for Onshore Oil Operations (Adco) is set to retender the contract to install gas compressors at its onshore Bab field after the original two bids came in substantially over budget.

Bids for the combined front-end engineering and design, and engineering, procurement and construction contract were submitted on 2 October.

They came from a German team of ILF Consulting Engineers and Siemens; and Abu Dhabi-based National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC) with Paris-based Technip and Germany's MAN (MEED 12:10:07).
The latter group was understood to be the low bidder, but the price is believed to have been as much as double the estimated $250m-300m budget set by the client.
Adco is set to retender the contract with some changes to the scope of work. Its options include splitting the basic engineering portion from the construction element or procuring the compressors separately in an effort to reduce the overall cost.
The project is part of the second-phase expansion of the field (MEED 28:4:06).
