A prominent person in the low-cost aviation sector
Adel Ali
Company: Air Arabia
Position: Chief executive officer (CEO)
Biography: Launched in 2003, Air Arabia was the first airline in the Middle East and North Africa to import the low-cost carrier model from Europe.
Adel Ali has expanded the firm swiftly, floating the company to form the region’s first publicly owned airline. Ali was previously at Gulf Air, where he assisted in the early stages of the airline’s current recovery. He also spent more than 20 years at British Airways, holding several management positions before taking over as general manager of the company’s Middle East & Africa division.
Ali has overseen Air Arabia’s expansion from Sharjah to a second hub in Nepal. The joint venture with Yeti Airlines, Flyyeti.com, has given the company access to the Far East market.
A third hub is set to open in Morocco this year, providing entry to Western Europe. A fourth, in the Levant or North Africa, is under consideration.
