Announcement will be made on 10th of every month and is the first surge since December
The UAEs ADNOC Distribution has increased the retail price of unsubsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders for April.
Announced on the 10th of every month, the new retail price is as follows:
- AED46 ($12.5) for a 11.3-kilogram cylinder, up from the earlier marked retail price of AED42, and
- AED92 for a 22.7kg cylinder, from the earlier marked retail price of AED83.
Adnoc Distribution provides fuel for transportation, energy for heat and light, lubricants to keep engines moving, and petrochemicals products to manufacture everyday items.
The new prices reflect the global surge in the pricing of the product, said Khalid Hadi, vice-president of marketing and corporate communications division at Adnoc Distribution. We are committed to monitoring the markets as well as following up with all relevant stakeholders in the UAE to guarantee fair implementation of the new pricing.
The UAE implemented a fuel deregulation policy in August 2015, which sent oil prices up by 24 per cent and decreased diesel prices by 29 per cent.
It was the first country in the GCC to deregulate vehicle oil prices in line with strategic priorities, among them freeing up resources tied to subsidies, lowering fuel consumption and promoting green initiatives.
Pre-tax energy subsidies in 2015 in the UAE will amount to $12.64bn, or 2.87 per cent of GDP, according to the Washington-based IMF. The subsidies as a percentage of GDP are higher in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain at 4.62 per cent.
The price surged in December 2015 to:
- AED46 for a 11.3kg cylinder, up from the earlier marked retail price of AED44, and
- AED92 for a 22.7kg cylinder, up from the earlier marked retail price of AED88.
