AdP set for airport studies

23 May 2003
France's Aeroports de Paris (AdP)is to start work soon on a contract to update and develop designs for terminal buildings and facilities at Houari Boumediene airport. The company has been selected by the Airport Services Management Company (EGSA)to work on the long-discussed programme to complete and expand the country's principal international airport.

AdP has four months to develop the existing studies, drawn up more than 10 years ago, of the as yet-unfinished terminal building. The company will be responsible for adapting the studies in line with modern industry requirements, including updating the security aspects. AdP will also study the commercial possibilities for the terminal, including the potential for retail outlets. The contract also involves the preparation of designs for a presidential pavilion, car parking for up to 2,700 vehicles and aboveground water storage facilities. China State Construction & Engineering Companyis already working on a contract to rehabilitate the cement cladding of the existing airport (MEED 18:4:03).

Plans have been under review for many years to expand Houari Boumediene airport. Local authorities had originally planned the expansion on a build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. However, there were few takers for the scheme and it was eventually shelved, with the government assuming control (MEED 6:12:02).
