Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company (ADSSC), which is wholly owned by Abu Dhabi Water & Electricity Authority (ADWEA), is reviewing technical bids from nine groups for a masterplan contract for Abu Dhabi's sewerage network. An award is expected by the end of May once commercial bids have been opened.
The consultancy contract principally involves masterplanning the sewerage network for the cities of Abu Dhabi and Al-Ain but covers the entire emirate except the Western Region.ADSSC also expects to issue requests for qualification by the end of May for the privatisation of the Mafraq sewage treatment plant (STP) and the Zakher STP in Al-Ain. Requests for proposals are likely in the third quarter. The privatisation is expected to follow ADWEA's independent water and power project (IWPP) model.Australia's Cardno has been appointed technical adviser on the privatisation; Dewey Ballantine is legal adviser and BNP Paribas is financial adviser (MEED 17:3:06).
