The Ras al-Khaimah Investment Authority (Rakia) has awarded the legal advisory contract for the Mina Saqr 1 power plant project to UK law firm Linklaters.
Bids had also been submitted by Chadbourne & Parke, Clifford Chance, Norton Rose, and Shearman & Sterling.
The plant will be built in the north of the Ras al-Khaimah, 110 kilometres northeast of Dubai and 20km from the Omani border.
The coal-fired project will have a capacity of 500-600MW and is the first phase of a complex that could ultimately accommodate 4,000MW of coal-fired power-generation capacity.
HSBC has been mandated by Rakia to act as the lead consultant and financial adviser on a programme to develop several independent water and power projects in the emirate, using gas, oil or coal as feedstock (MEED 8:12:08).
