Aecom wins road safety project management role

A total of seven project management consultancy contracts will be awarded

US-based Aecom has won the project management consultancy (PMC) for the safety contract of roads and infrastructure in Qatar.

In June 2010, Jamal Shareeda al-Kaabi, manager of design department at Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal), said that a total of seven PMC contracts would be awarded (MEED 17:6:10).

These contracts are for pedestrian pavements; 29 primary routes including major highways and expressways; network management; operations and maintenance; safety; local roads and drainage; zones and Intelligent transport systems (ITS) that will help reduce congestion and involves measures such as traffic signal controlling systems and speed cameras.

Al-Kaabi says during MEED’s Qatar Transport conference the ITS PMC and the management PMC are currently under evaluation.

Currently, Ashghal has $20bn-worth of road projects planned. Going forward, there will be a further 24 road projects planned worth QR30bn, says Ron Rimkus, senior project management specialist at Ashghal-Doha Expressway programme.
