AFC wins race for Motorcity infrastructure

02 May 2006

The local/UK Al-Futtaim Carillion (AFC) has been selected for the estimated AED 200 million ($55 million) infrastructure package on the AED 3,000 million ($816 million) Motorcity development. The contract calls for the installation of services, including sewerage and surface water drainage facilities, and construction of the internal roads system (MEED 7:4:06).

The 700,000-square-metre site is an extension of the already complete Dubai Autodrome and will be used as a business park for the automotive sector. The project includes the construction of the Formula One World theme park, a shopping mall, office towers, hotels and residential complexes.

The local Dutch Foundation is carrying out the development's main foundations package. AFC has completed the enabling works package. The US' Burt Hill and the local National Engineering Bureau (NEB) are the consultants. The local Edara is the project manager for the client, Dubai-based Union Properties.
