The local Ahmadiah Contracting & Trading Company is low bidder at about KD 40 million ($138 million) for the main construction contract on the 360° Kuwait mall project planned by Tamdeen Shopping Centre Development Company (TSCD). An award is expected imminently.

Two other contractors are understood to have priced the work when bids were submitted in early December: the local Alghanim International Trading & Contracting Company and Australia's Multiplex Construction.

Located on the sixth ring-road, the mall will feature a 59,000-square-metre leasable shopping area, a hypermarket, a multi-storey car park with space for 3,000 vehicles and a 15-screen IMAX cinema. The anticipated construction period is 24 months. A US/local team of the RTKL and OHA Engineering Consultants is the design consultant. The UK's Buro Happold carried out the design review.

TSCD, a subsidiary of the local Tamdeen Real Estate Company, is preparing tender documents for its second mall project, the Mall of Kuwait. Located in south Sabahiya, it will be the largest mixed-use commercial development in the state when it opens in 2009.

The mall will be composed of shopping units covering a gross leasable area of 131,000 square metres, a hypermarket, a multi-storey car park with space for 8,000 vehicles, an IMAX cinema complex and a multi-purpose convention hall (MEED 17:6:05).
