Sharjah airline to open third hub
Air Arabia will launch a new low-cost carrier in partnership with the Travco Group, operating from a hub in Egypt.
The Sharjah-based airline has teamed up with Egypt’s Travco Group to launch Air Arabia Egypt.
The low-cost carrier is currently in negotiations with Cairo over operating out of several bases in the country rather than a single city.
In May this year, Air Arabia launched its second hub from Casablanca in Morocco, in partnership with the local carrier Regional Air Lines.
The entire group operates with Airbus A320 aircraft. Air Arabia Egypt will do the same (MEED 13:7:09).
Air Arabia is the largest and most successful of the low-cost airlines in the Middle East.
In August, the airline announced first-half profits of AED160m ($44m), an increase of 39 per cent on the same period last year (MEED 5:8:09).
