Airport firms shortlisted

Egyptian Holding Company for Airports & Air Navigation (EHCAAN) has shortlisted four international consortiums for the contract to carry out the modernisation of the Borg el-Arab airport. They are the local Arabco with Japan's Kajima, Japan's Taisei with Turkey's TAV, Lebanon's Consolidated Contractors Company with the US' Morganti Group and Belgium's Besix with the local Orascom Heavy Industries.

The estimated $75 million project calls for the construction of a new terminal with capacity to handle 1 million passengers and 4,000 tonnes of cargo a year, as well as the upgrade of related facilities. An award is expected in early 2007, with completion scheduled for late 2008 (MEED 18:8:06).
