Airport road package goes to bid

15 October 2001

The Municipal Affairs & Agriculture Ministry released bid documents in early October for the Ras Abu Abboud-F ring road project. Fourteen regional and international prequalifiers have been given until 17 November to submit bids for the contract, which covers the main highway network serving the new Doha international airport (MEED 25:5:01).

The contract involves the construction of about eight kilometres of dual carriageway, a major tunnel and several interchanges. It is estimated to be worth QR 250 million-300 million ($55 million-82 million).

The contract represents the second package on the estimated $600 million airport development. Package 1, involving dredging and reclamation work, is close to being awarded by the ministry. The third and largest package, covering the new terminal building, is expected to be issued for bid by the end of the year (MEED 27:7:01; 27:2:01).

The consultant is the US' Fentress, Bradburn & Associates, with Beirut-based Dar al-Handasah (Shair & Partners).
