Airport road tender goes to bid

Dubai Municipality has invited companies to submit bids by 19 January for a major road upgrade project adjacent to Dubai International Airport (MEED 19:7:02).

Estimated to be worth AED 650 million ($177 million), the contract calls for the construction of a 1.8-kilometre-long tunnel, to replace the existing Qusais-Rashidiya junction road, two interchanges, a four-lane dual-carriageway, access roads, signage and related works. The facilities will take about 24 months to build.

The prospective bidders include the local Wade Adams Contracting, the local/Cypriot National Wheel J&P, the local/Belgian Bel Hasa Six Construct, the local/UK Dutco Balfour Beatty,and SBG of Saudi Arabia.

The project is being undertaken to allow for the extension of the airport runway. The extension is part of the Department of Civil Aviation programme to invest $2,500 million in the airport. The consultant is the US' De Leuw Cather International(MEED 5:7:02).
