The plan maps out future development of transport infrastructure in Al-Ain
The Al-Ain surface transport masterplan is expected to be complete by September, says a source close to the project speaking on the sidelines of MEED’s Qatar Transport conference.
A group comprising the Abu Dhabi office of Aurecon together with the UK’s Arup and Canada’s IBI Group was awarded the study contract in May 2010 (MEED 9:5:10).
The study will map out the future development of transport and infrastructure in Al-Ain region up until 2020. The plan will be executed in phases.
Initially the study was expected to be complete by April 2011.
The plan consists of two main phases, including short-term and long-term solutions.
The short-term solutions include assessing traffic lights, roundabouts and parking issues and these are expected to be implemented as soon as possible.
