08 July 2014

At least four contractors compete for Dubai Festival City construction work

The local Al-Futtaim Group has received bids from contractors for the contract to build the first part of the expansion to its Dubai Festival City shopping mall.

Known as milestone 1, the estimated AED100m ($27m) contract involves extending the atrium at the centre of the mall.

The bidders include:

  • Alec (local)
  • Al-Futtaim Carillion (local/UK)
  • Dutco Balfour Beatty (local/UK)
  • Khansaheb Civil Engineering (local)

Later phases of the expansion will involve extending the mall across the waterway that runs alongside the shopping centre, adding 34,000 square metres of space. The contract for those works is expected to be tendered later this year.

The architect is US-based HOK. The structural engineer is the local WME. The mechanical, electrical and plumbing consultant is the local Black & White.

Al-Futtaim Carillion built the mall about 10 years ago. In 2004 it was awarded a AED1.2bn contract to build the waterfront retail centre.
