Al-Habtoor Leighton wins Dubai tower contract

The contractor takes over on The Buildings by Daman project from Oger Dubai

The local/Australian Al-Habtoor Leighton Group has been awarded an AED700m ($191m) contract to complete The Buildings by Daman project at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).

The development comprises three towers – a 20-storey office block, a 60-storey hotel, and a 60-storey apartment block. Completion is expected by December 2011.

MEED reported in April that the Al-Habtoor Leighton Group had been selected for the contract (MEED 27:4:10).

The appointment of a new contract follows Daman’s decision in January to terminate the project’s contractor Oger Dubai, the local affiliate of Saudi Oger. Daman said at the time that the decision was made due to Oger’s disappointing performance (MEED 31:1:10).

Oger Dubai, which is the local affiliate of Saudi Oger, won the estimated AED1bn main construction package on the project in 2007.

US-based Hill International is the project manager.
