Al-Habtoor wins resort contracts

The local Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises has been selected for two contracts, worth a total of about AED 165 million ($45 million), covering the third and fourth packages on the Al-Raha beach development project in the emirate of Abu Dhabi (MEED 26:10:01).

Twelve contractors submitted rebids by the 15 October deadline. The client, Abu Dhabi's Works Department, called for the submission of fresh prices after changes were made to the designs for the scheme (MEED 21:9:01).

Package 3 will cover the construction of a three-storey shopping mall, with a total built-up area of 38,000 square metres, and related facilities.

Package 4 will involve the construction of a beachfront five-star hotel, with 90 rooms and 11 suites. Both the contracts have a construction period of 15 months.

The first and second packages on the project were awarded last year. Swissboring, part of Italy's Trevi, took the first package covering the piling works. The local Al-Jaber Transport & General Contracting Establishmentwas awarded a AED 38 million ($10.3 million) contract to build the superstructure for 24 luxury chalets (MEED 18:5:01).

The consultant is the local Test Architectural Bureau; the project manager is the US' DMJM International.
