Local contractor secures $50m contract on Kauther gas project

The local Al-Hassan Engineering Company has won an estimated $50m engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract to provide construction services on the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) project to install a gas compression system on the Kauther field in north Oman.

The contract, announced on 14 September, covers the provision of civil and structural engineering, pipeline installation, mechanical and electrical installation, instrumentation and telecommunications works. The contract was awarded by the main contractor on the scheme, the UK’s Petrofac.

PDO in July awarded Petrofac the estimated $350m main EPC contract on the project. The deal covers the construction of a gas compression system and associated facilities at the Kauther gas plant. Under the terms of the deal, Petrofac will operate the plant for a six-month commissioning period once construction is complete.

PDO operates Oman’s oil and gas fields on behalf of the Oil & Gas Ministry.
