Al-Jaber awards Saadiyat hotel contract to Alec

The local Alec has been awarded the estimated AED600m ($163m) contract to build a resort on Saadiyat island in Abu Dhabi emirate.

The 25-month contract involves the construction of a five-star hotel with 300 rooms, together with a spa and staff accommodation. The total built-up area is 70,000 square metres. Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts will manage the property.

The architect is Australia’s GHD. The local Roya International is the client representative. The client is Abu Dhabi-based Al-Jaber Group.

Alec has also submitted a bid for another resort on Saadiyat island, for which the local Arabtec Construction is the frontrunner. The AED1.5bn contract includes the construction of a hotel with 380 rooms. The local Tourism Development & Investment Company is the client (MEED 19:8:08).
