Invitations to bid for the construction of a new 28-storey tower in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province city of Al-Khobar are due to be issued in the final quarter of 2010.

Preliminary designs of the estimated $100m commercial tower are complete and have been submitted to the Eastern Emara municipality for approval. Architectural designs were submitted on 25 March.  

The tower was designed by UAE-based Dewan Architects & Engineers for Amlak Sheikh Abdulrahman and Sheikh Sulayman, of the local Abdullah al-Reziza Group of Companies.

Dewan was awarded the contract to design and supervise construction of the tower in January 2010, shortly after opening its Saudi Arabian office in Riyadh, and has since completed two rounds of designs for the client.

Design approval in the Eastern Province usually takes four weeks and Dewan and the Al-Reziza Group are expecting approval by mid-April this year.

The submission deadline for the main construction contract will be in February 2011 with the contract scheduled to be awarded in April 2011. The tower is scheduled for completion in the final quarter of 2013.  

The Al-Reziza tower will be situated on a 2,030-square-metre site overlooking the Dammam/Al-Khobar highway. The project will include 28 floors of office space, retail outlets on the ground, and mezzanine floors and parking on two basement and four upper mezzanine podium floors.
