Developer expects 6,000 people to live and work at $375m Al-Waha project

Abu Dhabi-based Al-Maabar has released details of its plans for the $375m Al-Waha development in Tripoli.

Al-Maabar plans to build a mixed-use development consisting of a 31-floor hotel, a 28-floor office tower and 11 mid-rise residential buildings, together with a health club and a shopping mall that will include a supermarket, a food court and a cinema with five screens.

It will cover a total area of 65,000 square metres and will have a total built-up area of 265,000 square metres.

Once the developer completes the project in 2012, it expects 6,000 people to live and work at the development.

UK-based Atkins is the design consultant working on the masterplan. US-based Hill International is providing project management services on all of Al-Maabar’s developments (MEED 26:6:09).

Al-Maabar is implementing the project through its joint venture, Libya for Real Estate Investment & Development, with the Libyan Investment & Development Company.

Al-Maabar was established in September 2006 and is a joint venture between Abu Dhabi’s largest property developers, including Aldar Properties, Sorouh, Reem Investments, Al-Qudra Holdings and Reem International. Its projects also include schemes in Jordan and Morocco.
