Local firm to build third concourse at international airport
The local Al-Naboodah Contracting has won a second civil engineering works contract on the Concourse 3 project at Dubai International airport.
The AED300m ($82m) deal covers earthworks, as well as the construction of aprons, fuel lines, sewers, storm water drainage and airfield lighting. Al-Naboodah is already working on the concrete structure for the concourse building. The UAE’s Cleveland Bridge is building the steel structure of the concourse (MEED 2:7:09).
In April, the UAE’s Alec won the AED4.8bn ($1.3bn) main construction contract, which includes the fit-out and finishing work. Alec replaced the joint venture of the UAE’s Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprises, South Africa’s Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East), and Japan’s Takenaka Corporation, which won the contract in December last year.
In May, the UAE’s ETA Ascon Group won the AED1.6bn mech-anical, electrical and plumbing deal, replacing Kuwait’s Kharafi National, which was originally selected for the contract in January.
Concourse 3 will connect to Dubai International airport’s already finished Terminal 3. When it opens in 2012, the new concourse will have 20 aircraft stands, including 18 for the Airbus A380 superjumbo.
The facility will cover a total area of 528,000 square metres.
