Al-Ain project will take 36 months to complete

Local developer Aldar Properties has won a contract to develop the infrastructure for the Shiebat al-Watah residential project in Al-Ain.

Aldar was awarded the contract by Abu Dhabi Municipality to oversee the infrastructure work for the proposed development, which is located 10 kilometres to the south of Al-Ain city.

The infrastructure contract involves the construction of 41km of internal roads and pedestrian paths, a 45km water network system and a 32.5km sewerage system.

Aldar will also be installing power networks and a fibre optic telecommunication as part of the deal.

The infrastructure contract is the precursor to the planned development of a residential project at the site, which is scheduled to consist of 1,045 residential units for Emirati nationals. The development will also contain educational, health and retail facilities.

The project is expected to take 36 months to complete.

Shiebet al-Watah is the latest of a number of residential schemes that are being developed for UAE nationals in Abu Dhabi.

Aldar is also currently developing a project that involves the construction of 5,000 villas for Emiratis.

The Al-Falah development is located east of the Abu Dhabi International Airport, and will be divided into five villages. In addition to the villas, each village will contain a village centre area, schools and mosques.

Aldar awarded three major construction contracts for the development last July. The contract will result in the 5,000 villas being built by the third quarter of 2012 (MEED 21:7:10).

Local developer Surouh Real Estate also recently launched plans to develop two large residential properties, Watani and Shamkha, for Emirati citizens in Abu Dhabi.

The AED5.4bn ($1.4bn) Watani development, which is located next to Abu Dhabi Golf Club, will contain 1,372 residential villas, 40 low-rise apartment buildings, shopping mall, four mosques, and other community and healthcare facilities.

The AED15bn Shamkha development, which will be located north east of Abu Dhabi city, will contain 6,453 residential units, 14 local and grand mosques, nine schools, offices, four health clinics and community centres (MEED 21:4:10).
