Local company wins $105m substations contract

Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) has awarded a contract to the local Alfanar Construction Company for the construction of substations in the Hail region.

Alfanar Construction will contract a new 380kV substation at Al-Jouf and expand an existing 380kV substation at Hail. Work will be completed within 25 months and is valued at SR396m ($105m).

The project is part of SEC’s drive to improve the reliability and security of supply of power to the Ar’ar and Al-Jouf network.

It will link the regions of Al-Jouf on the northern border to the main network of the rest of the kingdom, thus increasing the reliability of service in these areas.

Additional power generation capacity is planned for the region and the substations work will facilitate the transmission of the new capacity.
