Algeria is upgrading the mining railway network linking Annaba and Djebel Onk

Algeria’s National Agency for the Engineering and Monitoring of the Achievement of Railway Investments (Anesrif) has invited firms to bid by 7 September for the project management and design consultancy contract to build a mining railway network linking Annaba and Djebel Onk.

The scope of works covers engineering and design analysis, project management and monitoring, legal assistance and helping the owner transfer the completed works to the operator.

The project entails the dualisation, signaling and electrification of the existing 388 kilometre railway line linking Annaba and Djebel Onk and the study of a new 200 kilometre line that extends the line from Djebel Onk to El-Oud.

The selected consultancy firm will project manage the development of signalling, telecoms and power supply systems that cover 230 kilometres of rail network, 31 stations, as well as the renewal of tracks within a specific section of the railway.

MEED understands that the road and ballast renewal work on the existing line is under way and has so far covered 320 kilometres of the network.
