Under the turnkey contract, which is worth Eur1.9 ($3bn), Alstom will design, supply, install and commission the plant.
The plant is the third phase expansion of an existing facility at Shuaiba. Saudi Archirodon, Alstom’s consortium partner, will carry out the civil and marine works.
The steam-powered plant will be built on the Red Sea coast, 100 kilometres south of Jeddah. On completion, the Shuaiba plant will have a total capacity of 5,600MW.
The client is Saudi Electricity Company (MEED 3:7:08).
