France’s Alstom has won contracts worth €100m ($150m) to supply power equipment in the Middle East.

Under the largest contract, the company will supply equipment to South Korea’s Hanwha Engineering & Construction which is building the planned Samra 3 gas-fired power plant in Jordan.

Alstom will design, deliver and supervise the installation of two gas turbines and generators for the project and will be operated by Samra Electric Power Generating Company. The simple-cycle plant will have capacity of 285MW.

The project will be developed in three phases and will bring the total capacity of the Samra plant to 900MW, making it the largest power-generating facility in the country.

Jordan has installed capacity of 2,300MW and is facing annual energy consumption growth of 10 per cent.
