Amman terrorist trial starts

The trial of 13 men charged with plotting terrorist attacks in Jordan started in Amman on 29 September. The group includes three Saudis and a number of well-known Islamists, including Jordanian preacher Mohammed Chalabi, also known as Abu Sayyaf and Saud Mohammed Ali al-Khalayleh.

Local daily Al-Rai newspaper reported that the group had tried to go to Afghanistan to fight US forces in the country. However, 'when the group found difficulty in travelling to Afghanistan they swapped the idea - with a plan to carry out the same attacks on Jordanian land', it said.
