The local Arab Technical Construction Company (Arabtec)has been awarded the 21st Century tower contract in Dubai. To be implemented in a joint venture formed by Arabtec with the local/German Al-Rostamani Pegel, the contract involves the construction of a high-rise residential tower on the Sheikh Zayed highway (MEED 2:11:01).
The contract, valued at just over AED 150 million ($41 million), centres on the construction of a 53-storey tower with basement and ground floor, and a nine-storey car park structure. The tower will have a built-up area of 71,500 square metres; the built-up area of the car park will be 15,200 square metres.
The tower, due to be completed in 600 days, will offer 400 two and three-bedroom apartments. It will have a swimming pool on its roof.
Prequalified contractors submitted bids for the contract in October. The other main contender for the work was the local/South African joint venture of Al-Habtoor Engineering Enterprisesand Murray & Roberts Contractors (Middle East).
The client is Al-Rostamani Real Estate Company, part of the Dubai-based Al-Rostamani Group. The consultant and architect is the UK's WS Atkins International.
