A joint venture of UAE-based Arabtec Construction and the local Al-Mukawilon Contracting Company has won a $12m contract for infrastructure work in the West Bank city of Nablus.

The 20-month contract, which was awarded by Nablus Municipality, is for the second phase of a water loss reduction project which involves improving the city’s water supply network to reduce the cost of water for consumers.

The project is being financed by Germany’s KFW Bank.

The project is also part of Arabtec’s plans for regional expansion. “This is an important social project for helping the people of Nablus, and is part of our geographic expansion in the MENA Region,” says Riad Kamal, chief executive officer, Arabtec Holding.

In mid-January Arabtec won a $190m contract to build the Bridge Towers project in Qatar (MEED 21:1:10).
