State oil company says 55 per cent of construction works on refinery had been completed by end of 2016

State oil company Saudi Aramco has set a target to begin pre-commissioning of its Jizan Refinery in 2018.

The 400,000 barrels per day (b/pd) Jizan Refinery reached 55 per cent completion in 2016, and is planning to begin the pre-commissioning of the facility in mid-2018 following completion of the marine terminal, Aramco revealed in its recently published Annual Review 2016.

The overall Jizan refinery scheme includes a marine terminal and an integrated gasification combined-cycle power plant, which will have a capacity of 3.7GW.

In July 2016, MEED reported that construction work on the last major package awarded for the Jizan refinery, the air separation unit facility.

The estimated $2bn contract was awarded in April 2015 to Saudi group Acwa Holding and US-based Air Products, which formed the joint venture Jazan Gas Projects Company (JGPC) to build, own and operate the plant.
