Architect prepares Asia Asia designs

21 July 2006
US-based Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects has begun preparing concept designs for the Asia Asia hotel and resort on the Bawadi development in Dubailand. The 6,500-room hotel will be the largest in the world and will form the centrepiece of Bawadi. It will feature replicas of Asian landmarks including the Burj Dubai, Hong Kong's Bank of China building, Shanghai's Oriental Pearl TV tower, Kuala Lumpur's Petronas Towers and Taiwan's Taipei 101 building.
Pelli Clarke Pelli, formerly known as Cesar Pelli & Associates, was the architect on the original Petronas Tower project, and is working on the City Centre hotel and casino development in Las Vegas.

Asia Asia is part of the first phase of the AED 100,000
million ($272,000 million) Bawadi project, which will comprise 31 hotels and will nearly double the number of hotel rooms available in Dubai. In total, there will be 29,200 rooms, out of which 12,450 will be in Tatweer's 12 themed hotels. A further 16,750 rooms will be developed by other investors through the construction of another 19 hotels.

Local developer Tatweer, part of Dubai Holding, is the client (MEED 5:5:06).
