Areva’s Transmission & Distribution division will carry out the bulk of the work, while Hyundai will supply four power transformers for one of the installations. The client is Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa).
“Areva’s substations will help Dewa meet the emirate’s increasing demand for electricity due to its rapid urban expansion,” Areva says in a statement on 13 March.
In January, Areva was awarded a €500m contract by Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation for 14 substations in and around the Qatari capital, Doha (MEED 15:1:08).
The contract is the largest ever taken on by the Areva’s transmission and distribution arm.
