Areva wins two power contracts in UAE

07 February 2008
France’s Areva has won two turnkey power transmission and distribution contracts in the UAE. The contracts are worth Eur86m ($126m).

The first contract covers the construction of two 132/11kV indoor substations, which will be commissioned in April 2009. Dubai Electricity & Water Authority is the client.

Under the second contract, which was awarded by Nakheel, Areva will build three 132/22kV substations on the Palm Deira development. The contract is part of the first phase of the electricity distribution network development plan for Palm Deira. Nakheel aims to attract 1.25 million inhabitants to the development by 2015.

In January, Areva’s transmission and distribution division was awarded its largest contract ever. The Eur470m contract covers the construction of 14 substations as part of phase eight of Qatar’s transmission network expansion programme (MEED 15:1:08).
