Qatar has $35bn-worth of rail projects planned
UAE-based Advance Rail Group (ARG) will partner with Spanish construction firm Dragados to bid for rail projects in Qatar.
The companies have signed a joint venture agreement to start seeking opportunities in the rail sector in Qatar, including tunnelling contracts on the Doha metro that is just one part of Qatar’s $35bn rail programme.
“This strategic joint venture will ensure Qatar has access to the very best international rail infrastructure and tunnelling experience,” says Warwick Georgeson, general manager of ARG. The joint venture will also benefit from Dragados’ associated businesses, including Cobra and ACS Industrial.
Georgeson also said that the joint venture might be expanded across the rest of the region to bid for other rail projects that are planned.
ARG was officially launched in September 2010, when UAE-based Habtoor Leighton Group joined forces with leading Australian rail contractor John Holland, to pursue an expected $75bn in rail projects within the GCC region (MEED 27:9:10).
