Packages are for roads surrounding Al-Bayt Stadium
Qatars Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has received offers for a contract to build roads surrounding the Al-Bayt Stadium.
The offers, received on 21 March, are for the following road and drainage packages:
- Al-Froosh / Kharaitiyat for plot development
- North of Nasriyah for plot development
- Rawdat Egdaim and Ezghawa
All four packages are part of Qatars Local Roads and Drainage Programme (LRDP), which includes more than 200 road and drainage schemes worth an estimated QR53.2bn ($14.6bn).
Due for completion in 2020, works on the LRDP have been divided into five geographical areas, which together cover the entire country.
It is understood Qatar has been reprioritising projects due to lower government revenues arising from the decline in oil prices.
Sources say the government has only been awarding contracts that are crucial in delivering the required infrastructure for the 2022 Fifa World Cup.
The first major infrastructure award this year was for the contract to design and build Al-Bustan Street North.
A joint venture of Lebanons Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) and the local Teyseer Contracting won the $744m contract for the project on 21 March.
