Qatari project will add 80,000 cubic metres a day capacity
Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has received revised financial bids from three groups for the expansion of the 112,000-cubic-metre-a-day (cm/d) Doha South wastewater treatment plant.
Ashghal will evaluate the amended submissions, which came from India’s Larsen & Toubro with Oman’s Galfar and the US’ ITT; Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) with France’s Veolia; and Singapore’s Keppel Seghers and the local HBK.
Each of the competing teams was asked to submit revised bids by 16 February. The client is due to make an award by March and work is scheduled to begin in May.
The project will add 80,000 cm/d to the existing 112,000 cm/d capacity of the plant.
Ashghal’s long-term plan is to relocate the Doha South plant to Mesaieed, about 35 kilometres south of the capital. However, industry sources say this is unlikely to happen for another 15 years.
Under the relocation plan, the Doha South plant would be converted into a pumping station. Sewage would still be collected at the site, but from there it would be pumped southwest to Abu Nakhla before being transferred to Mesaieed for treatment.
