16 July 2004
An award for the main construction package on the estimated $300 million New Campus project for the American University in Cairo (AUC) is now expected in early September, after two shortlisted groups of contractors were requested to submit revised financial offers. The two prequalified groups are: Laing O'Rourkeof the UK, with the local Industrial Construction & Engineering Company (SIAC); and Samsung Corporationof South Korea, with the local Samcrete(MEED 30:1:04).

The shortlisted groups have already submitted revised technical bids after seeking clarifications from the project and construction manager, Fluor Daniel International, and the design consortium of US and local architects, engineers and consultants. Landscape designs for the project are being finalised by a team led by the local Sites International.

Final designs are also being prepared by two teams of architects from Cairo University for an AUC presidential residence and an off-campus housing complex for faculty staff, both of which will be tendered independently of the main campus package in the third quarter.
