August deadline for Masdar solar plant

03 June 2008
Prequalified companies have until 31 August to submit their bids for the largest solar power project in the world, the Shams 1 plant in Abu Dhabi. The client is Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar).

Four companies are understood to have been prequalified for the project. Spain’s Cobra confirmed that it is among the qualified bidders. The list also includes German and other Spanish companies.

The 100MW plant will be developed under a 25-year, build-own-operate concession, similar to the framework for other independent water and power projects in Abu Dhabi.

Tenders for Shams 2 and Shams 3 are expected to be issued before the end of 2008 and in 2009 respectively.
