Australia lists Hamas terrorists

21 November 2003
Australia on 21 November listed six senior members of Palestinian group Hamas as terrorists and froze the assets of five charities, which it suspects fund the organization's activities, reported AP. The move comes weeks after the US carried out similar actions.

The six men are Ahmed Yassin, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, Imad Khalil al-Alami, a member of the Hamas political bureau in Damascus, Osama Hamdan, a senior Hamas leader in Lebanon, Khalid Mishaal, head of the Hamas political bureau and executive committee in Damascus, Musa Abu Marzouk, the deputy chief of the political bureau in Syria, and Abdel Aziz Rantisi, a Hamas leader who reports to Yassin.

The charities whose assets were frozen included France-based Committee for Charity and Aid for the Palestinians, the Association for Palestinian Aid in Switzerland, the UK-based Palestinian Relief and Development Fund (Interpal), Austria-based the Palestinian Association, and Lebanon-based the Sanbil Association for Relief and Development.
