VA Tech Wabag to build Enfidha plant in partnership with MTT

Austria’s VA Tech Wabag has won a €11m ($16.3m) contract to build a wastewater treatment plant at Enfidha, 80 kilometres south of Tunis.

Wabag will carry out the project in partnership with local construction company MTT.

Tunisia’s wastewater authority, Office National de l’Assainissement, is the client on the scheme. The project will serve Enfidha and Hergla.

The plant will have capacity of 10,540 cubic metres a day of wastewater. The treated water will be discharged into the Mediterranean Sea through a 1.5-kilometre-long-duct.

Wabag is due to complete work on the project at the end of 2010.

The Austrian company has completed 10 industrial and municipal water and wastewater plants in Tunisia since it began operating in the country in 1997.
