Austrians take Duqm desalination job

Austria’s VA Tech Wabag has won the contract to build a desalination plant in the east of Oman.

The plant, with a capacity of 6,000 cubic metres a day of desalinated water, will be built in the Duqm area. The client is the Rural Areas Electricity Company (MEED 11:5:07).

Bids for the engineering, procurement and construction contract were also submitted by: India’s Larsen & Toubro; a consortium of Norway’s Aqualyng and the local Towell Al-Zawra Engineering & Services Company; and Hico Company and Utico, both of the UAE.

Seven more bids were submitted by local companies.
